The facilities for dental care in the University Hospital Kralovske Vinohrady were established after the 2nd World War by the opening of the dental ordinariate. In 1948, the dental department was established and in 1957 the Laboratory of Plastic Surgery of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences began to work, which operated within the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. The department focused on research and treatment of congenital developmental defects, and especially facial clefts. In 1992, this department was incorporated into the Dental Clinic at the University Hospital Královské Vinohrady.
In the 80s of the last century, the department published a number of scientific papers on the development and morphological deviations of craniofacial malformations and especially clefts.
Currently, the Dental Clinic of the University Hospital Královské Vinohrady provides highly specialized care for all types of clefts and other developmental anomalies of the orofacial area within the fields of maxillofacial surgery and orthodontics.
